The following information outlines our solution to correcting a problem that exists using the basic clock used in our DataBear and other instruments. It was most simply corrected by moving the stored year to an earlier time and bringing the retrieved year designation forward when the data are retrieved. These software do this, and the displayed data are fully compliant.
10 December 1999 (San Francisco)&emdash; A new program to read and reset any Langan Instrument is now available for use with Microsoft® Windows95®, Windows98® or WindowsNT® Operating Systems. The program, "Measurer's Windows" ,can be downloaded at anytime from a Langan website <Manuals and Software>. A .pdf manual is also available.
This software allows users to retrieve data from any Langan Instrument measuring carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, temperature or humidity. Time and instrument settings can be reset. Attach the instrument to a serial port, COM1 through 4, and when the program is opened, data are read automatically.
The core data acquisition component of Langan Instruments, the DataBear Measurer, includes a Motorola clock which must be reset to pass the millennium. This is done quickly using the new program. All instruments should be reset prior to the end of December.
It is suggested that all users of the DOS-based "IBearM Reader" users convert to use of the new Measurer's Windows, Version 1.0, program. Native files saved with either can be read by the other. The Y2K-compatible reset time, however, is included within the new Wintel program only.
The MacOS Sense-Your-World! Program was upgraded at the beginning of 1999. If you do not have this program it is also available, together with .pdf manuals, at the Langan website: <Manuals and Software>.
